General Summary:
Under direct supervision, provides clinical support services to patient care staff by performing a variety of dut! ies related
to patient care. Takes patient vital signs, assists patients with activities of daily living (e.g., bathing, feeding, toileting,
etc.), inventories and replenishes supplies and equipment, and performs special assigned duties such as performing
EKGs and Point-of-Care testing.
Duties and Responsibilities:The following are essential job accountabilities:
1 Provides general nursing care and personal care assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, eating, changing bed
linens and bed pans and positioning.
2 Assists in the preparation and transportation of patients for tests, procedures, etc.
3 Monitors patient condition levels; reports changes to the appropriate individuals.
4 Obtains and documents patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, weight, respiration and pulse.
5 Sets up and removes equipment and supplies; ensures equipment is functioning properly and stored appropriately. !
6 Performs EKGs and/or Point-of-Care testing which may inc! lude blood glucose, hemocult and specific gravity testing.
7 Runs special errands as required. Responds to call lights.
8 Ensures patient rooms, nursing areas, supply carts, etc. are stocked with appropriate items at required levels.
9 Maintains par levels of supplies and equipment on assigned unit(s). Notifies supervisor when reorder points are reached.
Department Description:
York Hospital is a Level I trauma center. 3 trauma bays, 24 critical, 25 intermediate and 9 fast care beds are availble to meet the emergency needs of our community.
