Description: UPMC is at the momment seeking for Pharmacy Technician, Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC right now, this occupation will be placed in Pennsylvania. Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC is hiring a Full-time Pharmacy Technician to help support the Pharmacy Department for its Oakland location. This position will be expected to work a rotating shift; to include day-evening shifts on every third weekend and one summer/one winter holiday.

Under the general direction of the Pharmacy Manager and the general supervision of the Staff Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for supporting the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients. These services will be provided in compliance with state and federal regulations, JCAHO Standards and the mission and policies of the hospital and department.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the provision of the proper oral and injectable medications (including
intravenous admixtures) for the correct patient for administration at the appropriate time

  • Uses proper technique in the preparation of medications. Initial/date product as required

  • Maintains all patient information and records. Maintain the pharmacy computer system as
required *

  • Provides and procures information (via telephone, person-to-person or written) to hospital
personnel, patients and visitors

  • Refers all drug information questions to Staff Pharmacists *
  • Procures and maintains adequate inventory levels on daily basis *
  • Maintains and updates automated medstations, unit and department stock, emergency
boxes and crash carts *

  • Assists in the training of pharmacy personnel and students *
  • Prepares cytotoxic and hazardous drugs (e.g. Chemotherapy) *
  • Assists in the procurement, accountability, storage, preparation and distribution of
investigation and study drugs *

  • Audits and maintains accurate records for controlled substances
  • Assures that all such drugs are scored and dispensed in compliance with Federal, State
and Department Regulations *

  • Participates in departmental quality improvement activities in order to continually improve
and evaluate pharmaceutical care as reflected by operational and patient care indicators

  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
Magee Specific Responsibilities

  • Accurately interprets, fills or compounds, and delivers medication to the nursing units
  • Completes all required documentation to include workload reporting and quality control
information

  • Completes and documents all assigned medication storage area inspections monthly
and conducts follow up as appropriate

  • Indicates essential job responsibility.
Basic Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and one of the following:
  • Completion of a pharmacy technician program
  • Six months pharmacy experience (hospital pharmacy technician experience
preferred)

  • Six months experience as a Medication Delivery Assistant and successful
completion of UPMC internal technician training

  • Enrollment in good standing as a pharmacy student
Magee Required Special Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to operate personal computer applications as required
  • Ability to calculate dilution and dosing problems, perform weights and measures, and performs billing functions
