Cummings Veterinary Hospital is a companion animal practice founded by Dr. Clifford Cummings. Dr. Cummings has been practicing veterinary medicine for over 40 years in Pennsylvania, and his staff consist s of six veterinarians and a professional team of nurse technicians, technician-assistants and office professionals. The hospital has a full complement of examination areas, surgical suites, dental suites, commercial product space and additional capabilities.
Summary/Objective
Assist Veterinarians in patient care and medical treatments including but not limited to: medication administration, vaccine administration, acquiring laboratory samples, processing in-house and reference lab samples, anesthesia monitoring, dental prophy, surgical preparation, hospitalized patient care, critical / emergency care and triage.
Essential Functions

- Gentle and compassionate care of patients.
- Able to work patiently with clients in varying emotional states.
- Check in clients, take medical history, obtain patient vital signs.
- Fill prescriptions.
- Discharge patients.
- Client education.
- Assist in cleaning the hospital including but not limited to: laundry, floors, taking out the trash and recycling, cleaning treatment areas, surgery, exam rooms, kennels, bathrooms and kitchen.
- Answer phones and make appointments as needed.
- Relay appropriate information to/from clients to doctors and/or management.
- Maintain proper documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Computer skills: Able to use Windows based computer systems, word processing, email, web search and other skills needed to effectively use the practice management software program.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Physical Demands
The physic al demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift or move animals of varying sizes, to include large breed dogs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time position with up to 26 hours per week. Open to first, second and third shift applicants.
Clinic hours are 8am-8pm Mon thru Sat. Weekends rotate as do âon callâ hours as needed on other weekend days.
Travel
No travel is expected for this position.
Required Education and Experience
- Associates in Veterinary Technology or equivalent RVT training program preferred but not required.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Basic math and writing skills.
