Provides assistance to the nursing staff by participating in and performing patient care/support activities and psychomotor skills within scope of education, training and ability.
Knowledge, Skil! ls, Abilities: The ability to learn and maintain organizational policies, procedures and standards to assist in the delivery of patient care. The ability to learn and maintain equipment to administer patient care. The ability to learn and maintain common safety hazards and associated precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, employees, physicians and the public. Ability to maintain quality standards. Ability to write, read, speak, and comprehend English. Ability to communicate effectively. Demonstrates proficiency with select patient care activities. Skill in utilizing a computer keyboard and video display screen. Demonstrates knowledge and skill to interact appropriately regarding age-specific requirements for each patient. Must be able to successfully complete SH Nurse Extender written examination with a score greater than or equal to 85% as well as, successfully return skills! demonstration within the first two weeks of employment. Inabi! lity to do so will result in removal from Nurse Extender position and termination if an employee does not successfully secure another position at SH.
Education: High school graduate required.
Experience: Previous hospital experience preferred.
License/Certification/Registration: None required. CNA preferred. Within 90 days of employment, obtains and maintains current card for American Heart Association Basic Life Support.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Requires heavy lifting up to 40 pounds by self, and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Requires corrected and color vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.
