The Therapeutic Support Staff (TSS) provides one-on-one interventions to a child or adolescent across all environments, when the behavior wit! hout this intervention would require a more restrictive treatment, residential, or educational setting. All services are provided in adherence to Child and Adolescent Service System Program (CASSP) principles of providing child-centered, family-focused, community based least restrictive and culturally competent services.

Flexible hour part-time positions available throughout the Lancaster and Dauphin County area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implements specific interventions tailored to stabilize the child in the given environment as directed in the treatment plan and/or behavior plan.
  • Provides one-on-one interventions to a child or adolescent across all environments i. e., home, school, community, day care.
  • Provides therapeutic activities to improve the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social functioning of children and adolescents.
  • Teaches skills! needed to enhance functional independence for community livin! g.
  • Provides all written documentation supporting progress of plan and its implementation.
  • Collaborates with other members of the treatment team and other professionals working with the family and child to ensure 24 hours of continuity of care.
  • Offers support for the family's efforts to stabilize the child and to promote age-appropriate behavior by working with the family in the child's presence.
  • Supervises therapeutic activities, crisis intervention techniques, immediate behavioral reinforcements, emotional support, time structuring, time out strategies, and additional psychosocial rehabilitative activities as prescribed in the treatment plan.
  • Participates in company orientation, in-service training, and office of Mental Health training as required.
  • Acts as mandated reporter under the Pennsylvania Child Protective Services Law.
  • Provides coverage in emergency situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned! .
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of child/adolescent development and behavior management skills.
  • Knowledge of CPR, first aid, universal precautions, and safety.
  • Knowledge of mental illness and/or mental retardation/intellectual and developmental disability issues.
  • Knowledge of community resources that support the child/adolescent/family.
  • Knowledge of psychotropic medications, including common side effects.
  • Knowledge of counseling and parenting skills that support the formation of trusting and supportive relationships.
  • Knowledge of computers and Microsoft software products and office equipment.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention, behavior management, and safety awareness.
  • Knowledge and the ability to utilize good listening skills and comprehend verbal instructions given in English.
  • Ability to document activities and make recommendations.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize work assignments, schedules, and meet! deadlines.
  • Ability to understand Child and Adolescent Service System Program (CASSP) principles and implement and support those principles in actual clinical practice.
  • Ability to collect an analyze data.
  • Ability to work under pressure of time constraints.
  • Ability to build health therapeutic relationships.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries and ethical standards.
  • Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions written in English.
  • Ability to write legibly in English in a clear, concise, and logical manner.
  • Ability to speak clearly and express self effectively in English.
Minimum Education, Credentials, and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, counseling, sociology, education, criminal justice, or similar human service field from an accredited college or university;
Or Bachelor's Degree in any field from an accredited college or university with one year of full-time paid work experience in a job that involved direct contact with children or adolescents;
Or
Licensed Registered Nurse with two year of full time paid work experience in a job that involved direct contact with children or adolescents;
Or
Associate's Degree or sixty credits toward a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with the equivalent of one year of full-time paid work experience as a TSS Aide;
Or
Associate's Degree sixty credits toward a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, with the equivalent of three year of full time paid work experience in a job that involved direct contact with children or adolescents, other than as a TSS Aide;
Or
Licensed practical nurse with the equivalent of three years of full time paid work experience in a job that involved direct contact with children or adolescents.
Special Requirements:
Must be able to work flexible h! ours to meet individuals' and program's needs.
Must have a valid driver's license, good driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle to attend trainings, meetings, and/or transport individual to appointments.
Must have the ability to obtain clearances as defined by regulations.
