ECT Technician

Western Psychiatric Institute is hiring a Flex Full-Time ECT Technician to help support the WPR - ECT Department for its Western Psychiatric (WPIC) location. This position will be working the daylight shift, with a start ! time of 6:30 AM.

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, assists in the provision of patient care for emotionally disturbed, mentally retarded, and/or multiply disabled child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

Responsibilities

CARE DELIVERY
-- Provides physical care and technical care procedures as applications of EKG leads, taking vital signs, monitoring level of consciousness and assisting with toileting and changing clothes.
-- Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment.
-- Assists in the implementation and maintenance of the department program providing a consistent and therapeutic approach to patient care.
-- Manages crisis situations effectively using positive approaches.
-- Assists the nurse and other direct care staff in the provision of physical care.
-- Documents in the medical record according to established policies.
LEADERSHIP
-- Takes initiative to ensure that department environment is m! aintained.
COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE
-- Maintains on-goin! g communication with the observations of patients¿ medical and behavioral symptoms and the care provided.
-- Works under the supervision of a registered nurse in providing care to patients as assigned by the Nurse Clinical Manager or designee.
-- Performs clinical research functions as assigned by the Nurse Clinical Manager or designee.
PROFESSIONAL GROWTH
-- Maintains competency requirements.
-- Attends a minimum of 2 unit based or institute wide inservices yearly.
-- Learns and utilizes up-to-date technology and practices in the delivery of patient care.

Basic Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent.
Ability to communicate adequately in English both verbally and written.
Experience in patient care for emotionally disturbed, mentally retarded, and/or multiply disabled child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients is highly preferred.
The incumbent must be physically capable of providing direct total physical! care to unpredictable, potentially violent mentally ill patients as necessary, including lifting, supporting, running towards or away from areas where problems are occurring and pushing and pulling equipment such as wheelchairs, stretchers and beds.

Licensure/Certifications

Act 73 FBI, Act 33
CPR within 30 days of beginning employment
