SUBSTANCE ABUSE COORDINATOR
Location: Allentown Pennsylvania
Description: The Geo Group Inc is in need of SUBSTANCE ABUSE COORDINATOR right now, this position will be placed in Pennsylvania. Detailed specification about this position opportunity please read the description below. This position assists in developing, organizing, and conducting a drug and alcohol offender education program and provides information on the conditions and problems related to drug! and alcohol abuse. In addition, this position assists participants in evaluating their abusive patterns while encouraging positive lifestyle changes.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Provides relevant substance abuse information for class curriculum.
Selects and recommends new instructional materials and programs for use in the substance abuse program.
Provides information to participants on the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse and associated illegal activities
Provides information on the effects of alcohol and drug abuse and related illegal activities on personal, family, social, economic and community life.
Assists participants in evaluating their own abusive patterns connected with their use of drugs or associated illegal activities
Assists participants in developing a plan for positive lifestyle changes to reduce chances of being involved in future alcohol and drug abuse and related illegal behaviors.
Maintains knowledge of new ! developments in the field of substance abuse.
Maintains a ! collegial relationship with other substance abuse professionals, programs, and associations.
Completes required testing, assessment, and psychosocial history on incoming residents as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Associate's degree in psychology, sociology, counseling, social work, education, nursing, or health or licensed as a chemical dependency counselor (LCDC), registered counselor intern (CI), licensed social worker, licensed professional counselor (LPC), or LPC-intern.
Previous experience working in a correctional or mental health setting is preferred.
Working knowledge of the Twelve Step Program of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.
Must successfully pass or clear any requirements specific to the position
Ability to work with a team of professionals and have the ability to implement team strategy approaches to work assignments.
Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by th! e department.
