This is a professional position which involves providing
direct nursing care to residents and maintaining medical
records. The focus of responsibilities for this posit! ion
is from a clinical perspective. A larger clinical
assignment grouped with a smaller medical record
assignment allows for thorough completion of clinical
tasks. This is accomplished by making daily visits to
assigned homes. In addition, the RN may be responsible
for supervision and review of the work of the LPNs as
defined by Current Nurse Practice Acts and HSS. This
position reports to the Health Services Supervisor.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
Participates in Medication Administration training as a
trainer and/or a practicum observer.
Develops a written plan for assigned residents to
provide for nursing services as a part of the total plan
of care.
Modification of the Health Care Plan to meet residentsâ
daily needs; reviews daily care checklists monthly.
Provides nursing services to all residents and
accompanies residents on emergency room trips, consults,
etc. if condition and ci! rcumstance warrant.
Comes fully prepared and participates ! in assigned staff
meetings as an integral member of the residentâs
interdisciplinary team.
Participates in programs for health maintenance;
performs venipuncture for laboratory studies, if
qualified.
Administers medications and signs appropriate records as
having done so and gives medical treatments as
prescribed by a physician.
Provides supervision of resident health service and
overall nursing care.
Works cooperatively with all personnel involved with the
residents.
Assists Residential Services staff when necessary.
May be designated a QMRP.
Assures social-sexual assessments for all residents are
completed.
Assesses residents for self-administration of
medication.
Completes quarterly Nursing Assessments for residents
and summarizes annually.
Writes 90-day progress summary on residents.
Reviews monthly MARs.
Provides and participates in in-service training to
staff and/or resi! dents in areas of oral hygiene, sex
education, self-administration of medication for
residents, etc.
Implements policy and procedure directives for Nursing
Department
Maintains all necessary medical records of assigned
residents.
Responsible to carry out same duties as House Manager
Aide when necessary.
Participates in:
a) The pre-admission evaluation study and plan;
b) The evaluation study, program design and placement of
the resident at the time of admission to the facility;
c) The periodic re-evaluation of the type, extent and
quality of services and programming.
d) The development of discharge plans; and
e) The referral to appropriate community resources.
Control of communicable diseases and infections through:
a) Identification and assessment;
b) Reporting to HSS; and
c) Implementation of appropriate protective and
preventive measures.
Performs other duties a! s required.
Job Requirements:
This position require! s a Registered Nurse with a minimum
of one (1) year current nursing experience.
A current Pennsylvania Nursing License and a genuine
interest in working with individuals with physical and
developmental disabilities.
A current and valid Pennsylvania driver's license and
reliable transportation is required
